Jazz Zinger
The Jazz Zinger a cocktail inspired by Billie Holiday. Billie Holiday was a jazz vocalist who is best known for her controversial ballad “Strange Fruit” which told the tale of the African American lynches of the South. Lady Day, a nickname coined at the start of her career, was one the first African American socialists to work with an all white orchestra. At the age of 15, Billie had started singing in the local clubs and would be known for the emotive tone she sung into her tunes.
Facing much adversity throughout her childhood and well into her career, Holiday had become addicted to opioids. Her use of opioids and will to continue to sing “Strange Fruit,”would lead her on a 20 year battle with the United States of America. Fighting for the right to continue to belt her tunes, Holiday dealt with the racism and wrath of The United States Government even on her death bed.
The Jazz Zinger is a teatail dedicated to Billie’s perseverance.
